Mayor Richard C. Irvin Proclaims May 12th-18th as “Police Week” in Aurora, Memorializing the Service of the Aurora Police Department

Aurora, IL - On Saturday, May 18th, Mayor Richard C. Irvin joined the Aurora Police Department (APD) for their Police Memorial Ceremony, saluting the immense sacrifices made by police officers and their families in faithfully serving and protecting the people of Aurora.

The ceremony honored Officer Alfred Olin and Officer Thompson Richardson who were killed in the line of duty, as well as Sergeant Kenneth Thurman Sr. and Officer Brian Shields who died in the line of duty, before recognizing employees of APD whose service reached 20, 25, and 30 years.

During the ceremony, Mayor Irvin proclaimed the week of May 12th to the 18th as Police Week in Aurora. He then bestowed upon officers in attendance the American flag, the only gift that matches their sacrifice and unwavering commitment to excellent service. Mayor Irvin is proud to commend the men and women of APD’s dedication to justice and the community.
